DrinCloud vs Carepatron: an honest comparison for cash-pay practices
Start with the part we cannot spin. Carepatron is cheaper than DrinCloud at every practice size, and its AI scribe is included even in the free plan. Free costs $0 with unlimited clients, telehealth, the client portal and the scribe inside. Plus is $31 a user, Advanced $39, and both were running at 50% off for six months on the check date. Our cheapest real setup for one clinician is $69. Carepatron takes the pricing block and we are not going to argue it. DrinCloud is the US edition of a clinic system with 12+ years and 8,000+ clinics in 14 countries, and our case is the depth of the clinical record, the modules a building with an operating room needs, and three languages that reach the patient and not just the screen. Prices on pricing, the rest in all comparisons.
Carepatron wins on price and it is not close. One clinician: $0 on Free with the scribe inside, or $31 on Plus, against $69 here. Two: $62 against $159. Three: $93 against $179. Six: $186 against $407. On top of the number it has a free plan you can keep, 14 days of everything with no credit card, claims from $0.25, e-prescribing at $39 a user, a SOC 2 Type II audit, apps on iPhone and Android, Outlook and Apple calendar sync, and unlimited storage from $31. We have none of those eight things. If the monthly bill is your constraint, buy Carepatron and stop reading.
What the difference buys is clinical depth. Memory fields that carry allergies, medication and history into the next visit. Procedures logged during the visit and charged on top of the consultation. Inpatient charting by hospital, floor and room, with one form for the physician and another for nursing. Surgery scheduled from the record. Stock that falls as you sell it. Sliding scale rates on the patient file. A superbill with NPI, EIN, CPT and ICD-10. Then languages: the software in each user's language, and a language on the patient record that decides what their reminders, portal and documents arrive in. From the $119 Clinic plan the price is per practice, so users two and three cost nothing. Final score 3.6 against 3.1.

Two different shapes, and only one of them is cheap. Carepatron prices per user and starts at zero with the scribe inside, which is an aggressive offer and the reason this page exists. We price by practice size: $49 for one provider, $119 for one to three users, $287 for four to thirty. Band pricing only pays off once a band carries several heads, and even then their per user math stays lower. Our wins here are narrow and worth naming: a published annual figure, two months free, and a price that does not jump when a promotion ends. See pricing.
The real math: four invoices
| Scenario | DrinCloud | Carepatron |
|---|---|---|
| Solo clinician with AI notes | $69/moEssential $49 plus the $20 scribe | $0/moFree, scribe included. $31 on Plus for storage and SMS. They win by a mile |

| 6 clinicians, AI for everyone | $407/moMedical Center $287 covers 4 to 30 users, plus 6 x $20 | $186/mo6 x $31 on Plus. They win, and the gap stays open |
Arithmetic with the rates on carepatron.com/pricing and drincloud.com/pricing, checked November 2, 2026, with AI notes on for every clinician. Carepatron rows use Plus from two clinicians up, since Free caps appointments and emails per user and carries no SMS. DrinCloud rows are the annual rate.
There is no scenario in this table where we come out cheaper, and inventing one would be a lie you could check in two minutes. The honest framing is what each bill buys. Theirs buys per seat software with the scribe thrown in and claims available when you need them. Ours buys a band price, a deeper record and clinic modules, and it stops growing inside a band while theirs keeps adding $31 a head. Read what an EHR really costs a small practice for the add-ons both of us charge for.

The heaviest block on the page, and the one that has to pay for the price difference. Carepatron earns three rows cleanly: a specialty template library you can use on day one, group notes with group scheduling, and unlimited storage from $31 while we meter it by band. What its public pages do not describe is where a busy clinic lives: fields that drag allergies and medication forward, a procedure billed on top of the consultation, inpatient charting by floor and room, an operating room calendar. Its AI documents. Ours also advises. More on the AI scribe.

Closer than we expected, and Carepatron takes three rows we cannot match: an app installed on iPhone and Android, three calendar platforms against our one, and an SMS allowance bundled rather than sold in packs. Its booking page is good and its resource management covers rooms and equipment. Where we pull ahead is a front desk with a physical door: a tablet check-in kiosk with a visit rating, a waiting room call screen, excuse notes in a click, and a waitlist that refills a cancellation by itself. For solo practitioners, that hardware matters less.

Checked November 2, 2026. DrinCloud card rates are the standard Stripe US rates on the client's own account, not a DrinCloud fee.
Read this block as a fit question. It is written for a practice the patient pays directly, which is the only kind we sell to. Carepatron collects money well and its deposit at booking is real, though only on the paid plans and only for one-to-one services. The gap is everything around the payment: a sliding scale on the record, a priced estimate signed remotely, product sales that discount stock, rates by specialty and by provider. And its card rate is thirty cents a transaction above the standard Stripe rate our clients pay. See superbills.

Three concessions first. Carepatron assigns a real onboarding manager on Advanced and we assign nobody. It has more than 200 help articles and a course site, and we have feature pages and an email address. And it has a far bigger US user base, which matters the week you hire someone. Our ground is the bilingual practice, and it runs deeper than a client language field: the software in each user's language, and a language on the patient that decides what their reminders, portal and documents arrive in. For bilingual therapists, that field moves show-up rates.

One point zero against four point five, and this block hurts twice. The insurance half first: they file claims, check status, prescribe electronically for $39 a user and will run your billing under your own NPI, and we do none of it on purpose, because that machinery is what makes most medical software heavy and expensive. Then the access half, which is sharper: they have a free plan and a 14 day trial, and we have neither. Paying before you have touched the software is a real cost and we will not dress it up. Both sign a BAA and both let your numbers out, so the question is who does the moving and whose name is on the product. Our importer takes any Excel or XML file, costs nothing and you run it yourself, which is the part people underestimate until an import lands wrong and has to be redone at somebody else's pace. Carepatron takes the developer row outright, since it publishes an API and we publish none, plus white labeling and Google Analytics. Its roles and permissions, though, exist only on the $39 plan.
Which one fits you?
Carepatron is the better fit if...
- Price decides it. $0 on Free with the AI scribe inside, $31 a user on Plus, against our $69 for one clinician and $159 for two. There is no practice size where we are cheaper.
- You want the AI scribe without a line item. Theirs is in the free plan; ours is $20 a month per provider on top.
- You want to try before you pay: a free plan you can keep, and 14 days of everything with no credit card. We sell neither.
- You bill insurance, even occasionally. Claims from $0.25, status checks at $0.15, and managed billing with credentialing and denial management. We score 1.0 against their 4.5 there.
- You prescribe electronically. Their add-on is $39 a month per user; we print or send a PDF, which fails in CA, FL, NY, MI, MN and DE.
- You want a SOC 2 Type II report, apps on iPhone and Android, Outlook and Apple sync, unlimited storage from $31, white labeling, and a help center of 200+ articles. We have none of those. Still weighing the market? Start at solo practitioners.
DrinCloud is the better fit if...
- Your patients pay you directly and an insurance engine is dead weight you would rather not fund.
- Your record needs depth: memory fields carrying allergies, medication and history into the next visit, pre-visit answers from the portal, and procedures charged on top of the consultation.
- You run a clinic and not a single room: inpatient charting by hospital, floor and room with separate physician and nursing forms, surgery scheduled from the record, and stock that falls as you sell it.
- You want AI that does more than transcribe: the clinical assistant for differentials, interactions and guidelines is on every plan, the scribe is $20 a month per provider and unmetered, and the booking chatbot is $20 per clinic.
- Part of your schedule speaks Spanish or Portuguese: the software in each user's language, and a language on the patient record that decides what their reminders, portal and documents arrive in.
- You have a physical front desk: tablet check-in with a visit rating, a waiting room call screen, excuse notes in one click, and a waitlist that refills cancellations by itself.
- You charge cash-pay the way it actually works: a deposit at booking on every plan, a sliding scale rate on the patient record, a priced quote signed remotely, and a superbill with NPI, EIN, CPT and ICD-10.
- You want your own Stripe account holding the money at 2.9% plus 30 cents, instead of 2.9% plus 60 cents on an account you did not open.
- You are growing and tired of per seat math: from the $119 Clinic plan the price is per practice, and Medical Center carries clinician four through thirty for $287.
- You want twelve years behind the software rather than a free tier, and the exit door open: Excel or XML in, CSV and PDF out. Prices on pricing.

Carepatron list prices are $0 for Free, $31 per user for Plus and $39 per user for Advanced; a 50% discount for the first six months and a separate seasonal offer were shown on the pricing page that day, and no annual dollar figure is published.
