DrinCloud vs Sessions Health: an honest comparison for cash-pay practices

Sessions Health is built for psychotherapists and small mental health practices, and its $0 Freemium plan, up to 3 active clients with one practitioner, is a real way in, followed by 30 days of Professional with no credit card. DrinCloud is the US edition of a clinic system with 12+ years and 8,000+ clinics in 14 countries, built for practices the patient pays directly. At one practitioner the bills almost match: $69 here against $74 there with AI notes on. At two they are cheaper. At three the curves cross and we are cheaper by $23. Two details move that arithmetic: their AI scribe is $35 a practitioner against our $20, and their telehealth is a $10 add-on instead of sitting in the plan. Prices on pricing, the rest in all comparisons.

The final score
DrinCloud
3.5/5
★★★★☆
Sessions Health
3.0/5
★★★☆☆

Sessions Health is a focused product and it earns a lot of this page. It bills insurance for real: claims from $0.25 falling to $0.19 above a thousand a month, batch and secondary claims, eligibility reports at $0.15, remittances that post themselves, and no setup fee or monthly minimum. It also beats us on the way in, with Freemium at $0 and 30 free days with no card, on free unlimited administrators, on assessments that score themselves, and on video that holds four people. We have no claims engine, no e-prescribing, no ONC certified EHR, no licensed CPT set and no free trial, and we score 0.5 against their 4.5 there.

The interesting number is where the curves cross, and it is practitioner number three. One with AI notes is $69 here against $74 there. Two is $138 there against $159 here, so they win by $21, or by a dollar once video is on both bills. Three is $179 against $202 and we win by $23, because Clinic covers 1 to 3 users for $119 while they charge $29 a head and $35 more for every head using AI. Four and five stay ours. At six they come back in front by $13, unless those six need video. Our scribe is $20 a provider against their $35, and telehealth is in the plan from $107.

Methodology: data comes from the public pages of sessionshealth.com (pricing and its FAQ, the documentation, scheduling, billing, telehealth, portal, security, AI Assist, group practices and billers pages, the about page and its footer links) and from drincloud.com, checked on November 2, 2026. Each cell is scored Yes = 1 point, partial or plan-limited = 0.5, No or Not documented = 0; purely informational pricing rows do not score. A block's score is its points divided by its scored rows, on a 5-point scale, and the final score is the weighted average of the seven scored blocks: pricing and transparency 20%, clinical record and AI 25%, scheduling and client communication 15%, getting paid without an insurer 15%, languages and experience 10%, insurance billing and the free way in 10%, and integrations and data 5%. That average is 3.495 for DrinCloud and 2.955 for Sessions Health, printed as 3.5 and 3.0. This comparison is published by DrinCloud: we are an interested party, which is why every claim points to a public source with a date, and why a cell reads 'Not documented' instead of 'No' when the vendor's site is silent. Write to info@dricloud.com if a cell is out of date and we will fix the data and the score.

Sources: sessionshealth.com/pricing/ and its FAQ, plus drincloud.com/pricing, checked November 2, 2026. DrinCloud figures are the annual rate; monthly runs $59, $128, $143, $344 and $689.

Two different shapes, and the sticker settles nothing. Sessions Health charges $39 for the first practitioner and $29 for each one after, with unlimited clients and administrators, and hands you a $0 plan and 30 free days before you pay a cent. We charge by practice size, so the second and third user cost nothing inside the $119 Clinic band, and we ask for one month up front. Their AI is $35 a head against our $20. More in what an EHR really costs a small practice.

The real math

The real math: four invoices and two crossings

ScenarioDrinCloudSessions Health
1 practitioner, AI notes on$69/moEssential $49 plus the $20 scribe. $79 with video$74/mo$39 plus $35 of AI Assist. $84 with telehealth. We win by $5

6 practitioners, AI for everyone$407/moMedical Center $287 covers 4 to 30, plus 6 x $20$394/mo$184 plus 6 x $35. $454 with telehealth. They win by $13

Arithmetic with the rates on sessionshealth.com/pricing/ and drincloud.com/pricing, checked November 2, 2026, with AI notes on for every practitioner. Sessions Health rows use Professional, and its $10 telehealth add-on is shown separately because it sits outside the subscription. DrinCloud rows are the annual rate.

This is the one table worth a calculator, because the lines cross twice. Below three practitioners their per-seat model wins: $29 a seat is less than the step from our $49 band to our $119 band. From three to five we win, because Clinic covers three users for $119 and the 4th and 5th are $45 each. At six our band jumps to $287 and they come back in front by $13, unless those six need video, which costs them $60 a month.

The heaviest block, and where the two products stop looking alike. Sessions Health is the better therapy notebook: templates in SOAP, DAP, BIRP and Narrative, AI you can embed in your own template, plan objectives that flow into each note, and assessments that score themselves and draw a progress graph. We do not have that graph. What we have is a record you shape per specialty, memory fields that drag history forward, a clinical assistant on every plan, and a scribe at $20 a provider against their $35.

Closer than the scores suggest, and they win the rows a therapist touches daily: voice call reminders on top of email and text, recurring appointments with couples, family and conjoint sessions, and video that holds four people, which is the difference between doing couples work and not doing it. Ours is one to one. Two rows go our way because our product grew up in buildings with waiting rooms: a waitlist that refills cancellations by itself, and tablet check-in with a call screen. And telehealth is in the plan from SOLO.

Read this block as a fit question, not a verdict. It is written for a practice the patient pays directly, and Sessions Health is built around the claim, so the rows it misses are the ones a cash-pay practice lives on: a deposit when the slot is taken, a sliding scale on the client record, a priced estimate they sign, a fee schedule per professional. Both sides run Stripe at 2.9% plus $0.30 with no markup. Their Autopay is a row we do not match. More on superbills.

This block carries 10% and it is where their site and ours barely overlap. Sessions Health is an American product for American therapists, based in Minnesota, with a public help center, named case studies and years of users who already know it. We are new here and we say so. Ours is the bilingual practice: the software in each user's language, and a language field on the patient that decides what language the reminders, portal and documents arrive in. If your whole caseload speaks English, most of this block is noise. More for psychologists.

Four point five against zero point five, and no writing fixes it. If payers pay your rent, Sessions Health is the correct purchase and you can close this tab: it files the claim, batches it, sends the secondary, checks the benefit for 15 cents, posts the remittance and charges 19 cents a claim past a thousand a month. On top of that it gives your biller a role, a $0 plan and 30 free days. We also have no ONC certified EHR, voluntary and relevant only to Medicare and MIPS, and no licensed CPT set. The smallest block at 5%, and they take it 4.2 to 3.6. They publish the security furniture better than we do: two factor, role-based access, detailed audit trails, US based servers, a status page and a trust center anyone can read. We should have those pages and we do not. Our half is the moving van: the importer takes any Excel or XML file, it is free because you run it yourself, and a bad import is deleted whole and uploaded again corrected.

The honest answer

Which one fits you?

Sessions Health is the better fit if...

  • You bill insurance. Claims from $0.25 down to $0.19 above a thousand a month, batch and secondary claims, eligibility at 15 cents, remittances posting themselves, no setup fee and no minimum. We score 0.5 against their 4.5 there.
  • You want to start for nothing: Freemium at $0 for up to 3 active clients, and 30 free days of Professional with no credit card. We have neither.
  • You are exactly two practitioners: $138 against our $159, and $158 against our $159 with video. From three up the arithmetic flips to us.
  • You do couples or family work. Their video holds four participants with a waiting room, screen sharing and chat, and their scheduling names couples, family and conjoint sessions. Ours is built one to one.
  • You practice measurement based care: assessments that score themselves and draw a progress graph, and plan objectives that flow into each note.
  • You want the therapy notebook ready on day one, free unlimited administrators and a help center to search at midnight. If you are hiring, read our page for therapists first.

DrinCloud is the better fit if...

  • Your patients pay you directly and a claims engine is dead weight you would rather not fund.
  • You are three practitioners or more: $179 against $202 at three, $244 against $266 at four, $309 against $330 at five, AI for everyone on both sides.
  • You want the AI price written down and lower: $20 a provider against their $35, the clinical assistant included, the booking chatbot $20 a month per practice.
  • You want video in the subscription instead of $10 a head a month: unlimited telehealth from the $107 SOLO plan, never counted by the minute.
  • Part of your caseload speaks Spanish or Portuguese: the software in each user's language, and reminders, portal and documents in each patient's language.
  • You are not only a therapist. The record is configurable per specialty, and the same account carries in-visit procedures, inventory, hospitalization and surgery scheduling.
  • You run a physical front desk: tablet check-in with a visit rating, a waiting room call screen, a waitlist that refills cancellations, and excuse notes in one click.
  • You charge cash-pay the way it works: a deposit at booking, a sliding scale on the client record, a priced estimate they sign, and a superbill with NPI, EIN, CPT and ICD-10.
  • You want your own Stripe account holding the money, so any volume rate you negotiate stays yours.
  • You live off repeat patients: satisfaction surveys, campaigns by patient event, birthday messages and referral source tracking. Prices on pricing.
FAQ

Questions about this comparison

Which one is actually cheaper?
It depends on headcount, and the curve crosses twice. One practitioner with AI notes is $69 here against $74 there. Two is $138 there against $159 here, so they win by $21, or by a dollar with video on both sides. Three is $179 against $202, four $244 against $266 and five $309 against $330, all ours, because Clinic covers 1 to 3 users for $119 and the 4th and 5th are $45 each. At six our band steps up to $287 and they go back in front by $13.
Is their Freemium plan a real plan or a demo?
It is a real plan. Sessions Health publishes Freemium at $0 a month for up to 3 active clients, one practitioner and no administrator accounts, and you move to Professional past 3 clients. For somebody seeing two or three private clients beside a salaried job, that is a genuine way to work for free, and we have nothing like it. We have no free plan and no free trial: signup is online, paid, in about 3 minutes, and one month is the smallest commitment we sell.
What does the AI cost on each side?
Theirs is AI Assist at $35 a month per practitioner, on either plan, and it records, takes an audio upload or works from a written summary, drafting in SOAP, DAP, BIRP or Narrative. Its intake, diagnosis and treatment plan support is marked Coming soon on its own pricing page. Ours is $20 a month per provider for the scribe, $20 a month per practice for the booking chatbot, and nothing for the clinical assistant. Both of us state that client data never trains the models.
Does Sessions Health include telehealth?
No. Its pricing page sells integrated telehealth as a $10 a month per practitioner add-on, on Freemium and on Professional, for up to 4 participants, and in a group you pay only for the practitioners who have it on. That is $120 a year per clinician and $720 across six. In DrinCloud video is unlimited and inside the subscription from the $107 SOLO plan; on the $49 Essential plan it is a $10 add-on. Their version holds four people for couples work, which ours does not.
Can I migrate from Sessions Health to DrinCloud?
Yes, and the import is free because you run it yourself. Export your client list from Sessions Health, which its pricing page says stays accessible and exportable, then upload the Excel or XML file with the importer built into DrinCloud. Notes exported as PDFs attach to each client's file pool, so history stays one click away. If an import did not come out right you delete it whole and upload it again corrected, with no fee.
Where does the final score come from, and is this page impartial?
From the tables above and nothing else. Every scored row gives each product 1, 0.5 or 0 points, each block becomes a score out of 5, and the final number is the weighted average with the weights in the methodology: 3.495 for DrinCloud and 2.955 for Sessions Health, printed as 3.5 and 3.0. Weight insurance billing at 40% instead of 10% and they win outright. It is published by DrinCloud and we say so, which is why every Sessions Health cell points to a public page with a check date, why anything we could not find reads 'Not documented' instead of 'No', and why we concede the free plan, the trial, the two-practitioner price and the four-person video in the same type as our own wins.
