DrinCloud vs Tebra: an honest comparison for cash-pay practices

Tebra is not a worse version of DrinCloud. It is a different category of product. Tebra is a real insurance billing platform: an ONC-certified EHR, its own clearinghouse reaching more than 8,000 payers, electronic prescribing with EPCS and a PDMP check, and revenue cycle management. DrinCloud is the US edition of a clinic system with 12+ years and 8,000+ clinics in 14 countries, built for the other half of the market, the practices the patient pays directly. If you bill insurance, our price is irrelevant and Tebra is the correct purchase. If nobody files a claim for you, the question changes, and one fact decides part of it: Tebra publishes no subscription price. Ours are on pricing, the rest of the field in all comparisons.

The final score
DrinCloud

Tebra
3.2/5
★★★☆☆

Tebra is the stronger product for an insurance practice, and nothing here argues otherwise. It submits claims through its own clearinghouse to 8,000+ payers, runs eligibility in seconds, scrubs claims against payer rules, posts ERAs by itself, works denials, prescribes with EPCS and a PDMP check, and holds ONC certification. It also beats us outside insurance: an AI Voice Assistant that answers the practice phone, reminders by text, email and phone call inside the subscription, two-way texting, a patient-facing directory, review management, websites with SEO, and electronic labs. We score 0.5 against its 4.5 in the insurance block.

Our half of the market is the practice the patient pays directly, and our case starts with a price you can read. Tebra names Practice Essentials, Practice Automation, EHR+, Patient Experience + Marketing, EHR Starter and Billing Starter, and prices none of them. The only amounts on its site are EPCS at about $75 a provider, PDMP at $500 a facility plus about $50 a user a year, and AI Note Assist at $99 a provider a month. Ours are five plans from $49 to $574 with the AI scribe at $20 a provider, signup in about 3 minutes, three languages, no gateway surcharge because the money lands in your own Stripe account, and the modules a medical center uses. More on clinics.

Methodology: data comes from the public pages of tebra.com (pricing, platform, features, EHR software, billing, patient experience, the FAQ, The Intake articles on its AI tools and its help center contact page) and from drincloud.com, checked on November 2, 2026. Each cell is scored Yes = 1 point, partial or plan-limited = 0.5, No or Not documented = 0; purely informational pricing rows do not score. A block's score is its points divided by its scored rows, on a 5-point scale, and the final score is the weighted average of the seven scored blocks: pricing and transparency 20%, clinical record and AI 25%, front desk and patient communication 15%, cash-pay billing 15%, languages and patient experience 10%, insurance billing, prescribing and certification 10%, and integrations and data 5%. No Tebra price here comes from a review site or a reseller: where tebra.com publishes no amount the cell reads 'Not published' and scores zero. This comparison is published by DrinCloud, which is why every claim points to a public source with a date, and why a cell reads 'Not documented' instead of 'No' when the vendor's site is silent. A block called verified pricing is hard to score when one side publishes nothing. Tebra's FAQ is direct about why: pricing varies by provider count, claim volume and configuration, and is set during the demo. That is a real commercial model, not a trick, but it is still a cost to you, because nothing can be compared until you are quoted. Neither of us runs a free trial, so that row is a wash. Tebra earns three rows back: one bundled subscription, no cut of collections, live training. See what an EHR costs a small practice.

Arithmetic with drincloud.com/pricing and the amounts on tebra.com/pricing and its Intake article on AI Note Assist, checked November 2, 2026, with AI on for every clinician. We publish no estimate of a Tebra subscription: guessing would be worse than a blank.

This is the only comparison on our site where we cannot finish the table, and the empty column is the point itself. Ask Tebra the two questions we would ask: what does clinician four cost, and what does AI for the team cost. The second has a published answer, $99 a head, five times ours. The first does not. Our side reads in forty seconds on pricing.

The heaviest block on the page and Tebra takes it, 4.1 to 3.9. Two rows decide it: electronic labs in the chart, and AI that suggests the ICD-10 code, which we do not do because you type your own. Our rows back are the clinical assistant, included on every plan rather than metered per note, and the modules a building full of patients needs. Note the scribe prices under identical rows: $20 against $99. See the AI scribe.

Our second loss, and the honest one. Tebra answers the telephone with an AI that books and reschedules, its reminders go by text, email and phone inside the subscription while we sell SMS in $36 packs, it runs a two-way text thread, and Care Connect can put new patients on the calendar. Four things we do not match. The rows we take come from where our product grew up, in buildings with a waiting room.

Sources: tebra.com/billing, tebra.com/features, tebra.com/faq and drincloud.com/features, November 2, 2026. Card rates quoted for DrinCloud are standard Stripe US rates on the client's own account, not a DrinCloud fee.

Read this block as a fit question, not a verdict: it is written for a practice the patient pays directly. Tebra's money machinery is built around the claim and it is good at that: statements in batches, card on file, an A/R dashboard, denial tracking, eligibility that tells the desk what to collect. Missing is the cash-pay furniture, because its customers do not need it: a deposit at booking, a sliding scale, a priced estimate the patient signs. See superbills.

Tebra edges this block too, and it deserves to. It answers a telephone on weekdays, it manages your reviews, it will build and market the practice website, and it has years of US practices who already know the software, which matters the week you hire someone. Our ground is narrow and real: the bilingual practice, with a language field on the patient that decides what their reminders and documents arrive in. See alternatives to DrinCloud.

Four point five against zero point five, and the only row we take is the superbill. If payers pay your rent, Tebra is the correct purchase and you can stop reading: it files the claim, checks the benefit in seconds, scrubs it, posts the ERA, works the denial, prescribes with EPCS and a PDMP check, and carries the certification MIPS reporting needs. We built none of it on purpose: that machinery is what makes most medical software heavy and expensive, and a cash-pay practice never touches it.

The lightest block and the closest. Both sign a BAA and both let your data in free, so the question is who lets it out. Ours leaves as CSV and PDF whenever you want, and we found no account-level export on Tebra's side. Its integration story is far stronger, because labs, prescribing, the clearinghouse and payments all ship inside the platform. Neither of us has a developer story worth bragging about.

The honest answer

Which one fits you?

Tebra is the better buy if...

  • You bill insurance. Claims to 8,000+ payers through its own clearinghouse, eligibility in seconds, claim scrubbing, ERAs posting themselves, denial management, a full revenue cycle solution. We score 0.5 against their 4.5 there, and if that is your business our price is beside the point.
  • You prescribe. EPCS at about $75 per provider once, PDMP at $500 per facility plus about $50 per user a year. We print or send a PDF, which fails in CA, FL, NY, MI, MN and DE.
  • You need an ONC-certified EHR for Medicare, MIPS or quality reporting. Certification is voluntary and we do not hold it.
  • You want the clinical plumbing included: electronic labs in the chart, and AI that suggests the ICD-10 code on the note.
  • You want the phone answered: an AI Voice Assistant that books and reschedules, reminders by text, email and phone in the subscription, and a support line on weekdays.
  • You want marketing done for you: a website, SEO and paid search, review requests with AI replies, and a directory in Care Connect. See also alternatives to DrinCloud.

DrinCloud is the better buy if...

  • Your patients pay you directly, so a claims engine is machinery you would fund and never switch on.
  • You want the price before you spend an hour on a demo: five plans from $49 to $574 and every add-on in dollars on pricing, against six packages with no amount beside any.
  • You want to be working this afternoon: signup is 3 minutes and the account is live the day you pay, against the 10 weeks its FAQ gives.
  • You want the AI price low and flat: $20 a provider for the scribe with no note counter, against $99 for 400 notes. The clinical assistant is included on every plan, the booking chatbot is $20 per practice.
  • Part of your schedule speaks Spanish or Portuguese: the software in each user's language, and reminders, portal and documents in each patient's.
  • You run a real clinic, not an office: admitted patients by floor and room, physician and nursing forms, surgery scheduling, diagnostic tests and stock. More on clinics.
  • You charge cash-pay the way it works: a deposit at booking, a sliding scale on the record, a priced quote the patient signs, and a superbill with NPI, EIN and your own codes.
  • You want your own Stripe account holding the money at the standard 2.9% plus $0.30, with no surcharge from us, instead of a processor whose rate you confirm in a review.
  • Your front desk is a physical room: tablet check-in with a visit rating, a waiting room call screen, a waitlist that refills cancellations.
  • You want the move in free and the exit open: Excel or XML in, CSV and PDF out. The arithmetic is in what an EHR costs a small practice, the rest in all comparisons.
FAQ

Questions about this comparison

Why does this page not show a Tebra price?
Because Tebra does not publish one. Its pricing page names six packages with no amount beside any, and its FAQ explains that pricing varies by practice size, provider count, claim volume and configuration and is tailored during the demo. The only amounts tebra.com publishes are EPCS at about $75 per provider once, PDMP at $500 per facility plus about $50 per user a year, and AI Note Assist at $99 per provider a month. Review sites quote Tebra figures; we will not repeat them, because a number we cannot check on the vendor's site is not a fact.
Is Tebra a better product than DrinCloud?
For an insurance practice, yes, and it is not close. Tebra files the claim, checks eligibility in seconds, scrubs it, posts the ERA, works the denial, prescribes with EPCS and a PDMP check, and holds ONC certification. We have none of that and never will. For a practice the patient pays directly, that list is machinery you would never switch on, and the comparison turns into the one on this page: a published price, signup in 3 minutes, three languages, the scribe at $20, and the clinic modules.
What does the AI cost on each side?
Ours is $20 a month per provider for the scribe that records the visit and drafts the note, with no note counter, $20 a month per practice for the booking chatbot, and nothing for the clinical assistant, included on every plan. Tebra's AI Note Assist is $99 a month per provider including 400 notes, then $0.25 a note, or $0.99 a note with no commitment; its Billing Assistant, Voice Assistant and review tools carry no published price.
Can I migrate from Tebra to DrinCloud?
Yes, and the import is free because you run it yourself. Export your patient list from Tebra, then upload the Excel or XML file with the importer built into DrinCloud. Chart PDFs attach to each patient's file pool so history stays one click away. If an import came out wrong you delete it whole and upload it again corrected, with no fee and nobody to wait for. The claims history will not come across: we have nowhere to put it.
Where does the final score come from?
From the tables on this page and nothing else. Every scored row gives each product 1, 0.5 or 0 points, each block becomes a score out of 5, and the final number is the weighted average with the weights in the methodology. The arithmetic lands on 3.455 for DrinCloud, printed as 3.5, and 3.205 for Tebra, printed as 3.2. Weight insurance and prescribing at 40% instead and Tebra wins this page outright.
Is this comparison impartial?
It is published by DrinCloud and we say so in the methodology. That is why every Tebra cell points to a named page on tebra.com with a check date, why we refuse to quote a subscription price we cannot verify there, why features we could not find read 'Not documented' instead of 'No', and why the three blocks Tebra wins are printed in the same type size as ours.
