DrinCloud vs TheraPlatform: an honest comparison for speech, OT and child therapy practices

TheraPlatform has one thing we do not have and cannot talk our way around: over 30 interactive therapy apps and games the therapist shares live inside the video session, with a whiteboard, annotation on shared material and score tracking as the child plays. If you treat kids over video in speech therapy, occupational therapy or pediatric therapy, that is the whole ballgame and you should buy TheraPlatform. DrinCloud is the US edition of a clinic system with 12+ years and 8,000+ clinics in 14 countries, built for practices the patient pays directly. Their $39 Basic plan also beats our $49 Essential for one provider with no AI. From two providers up the bill flips: $159 against $168, $179 against $237, $407 against $444. Prices on pricing, the rest in all comparisons.

The final score
DrinCloud

TheraPlatform

★★★☆☆

TheraPlatform is a teletherapy product first and it is very good at that. The interactive apps are not a marketing line: over 30 of them, built in, listed on all three plans, plus a whiteboard, your own resource library shared with annotations, a custom waiting room, virtual backgrounds and an observer seat for supervision. It also bills insurance on all three plans at $0.25 a claim, checks coverage at $0.10, posts ERAs by itself and runs a 30-day free trial with no credit card. We have neither the apps nor the claims engine, and we score 0.5 against their 4.5 in block seven.

Where their page goes quiet is what each plan contains. TheraPlatform publishes three feature lists that are word for word identical, no annual price at all, and leaves the AI Notes and CMS-1500 boxes unmarked, so you cannot tell whether the $39 Basic plan includes the AI notes you pay $30 a provider for. Our case is depth and arithmetic: a clinical record configured per specialty, real clinic modules behind it, the software and portal in English, Spanish and Portuguese, our scribe at $20 a provider against their $30, and Clinic covering 1 to 3 users for $119 instead of $39 for every provider you add.

Methodology: data comes from the public pages of theraplatform.com (pricing, features and home) and from drincloud.com, checked on November 2, 2026. Each cell is scored Yes = 1 point, partial or plan-limited = 0.5, No or Not documented = 0; purely informational pricing rows do not score. A block's score is its points divided by its scored rows, on a 5-point scale, and the final score is the weighted average of the seven scored blocks: pricing and transparency 20%, clinical record and AI 25%, scheduling and patient communication 15%, cash-pay billing 15%, languages and patient experience 10%, interactive teletherapy and insurance billing 10%, and integrations and data 5%. TheraPlatform publishes three plan cards whose feature lists are identical, publishes no annual price, and leaves the AI Notes and CMS-1500 checkboxes unmarked, so several cells read 'Not documented' because the site will not say which plan carries the feature. A vendor who will not print what is inside each tier is itself relevant information for anyone comparing. This comparison is published by DrinCloud, so every claim points to a dated public source and a silent website gets 'Not documented' instead of 'No'. If you find an outdated cell, write to info@dricloud.com and we will correct the data and the score.

Sources: theraplatform.com/pricing for plan and extra provider prices, the usage fees, the 30-day trial and the three identical feature lists, plus drincloud.com/pricing, checked November 2, 2026. DrinCloud figures are annual.

TheraPlatform wins the cheap start and the free trial, and it prices its usage fees to the cent, which most vendors here will not do. Two things work against it. Every hire charges again at $39 a head on Pro, while Clinic covers 1 to 3 users for $119. And the page will not say what you are buying: no annual price, three identical feature lists, the AI Notes box unmarked, so the $30 a provider has no stated home. Cost math in what an EHR really costs a small practice.

The real math

The real math: five invoices

ScenarioDrinCloudTheraPlatform
One provider, no AI$49/moEssential. Portal, telehealth and website $10 each here$39/moBasic, with the interactive apps. They win by $10

6 providers, AI for everyone$407/moMedical Center $287 covers 4 to 30, plus 6 x $20$444/mo$69 plus 5 x $39, plus 6 x $30

Arithmetic with the rates on theraplatform.com/pricing and drincloud.com/pricing, checked November 2, 2026, with AI notes on for every provider except the first row. TheraPlatform rows from two providers up use Pro, its cheapest plan that allows extra providers.

Ask the two questions we would ask before signing anything: what does provider number two cost, and what does AI for the whole team cost. At TheraPlatform the answers are $39 and $30 a head, every month, and Basic cannot take a second provider at all. Here the second and third cost nothing because Clinic covers 1 to 3 users, and providers four through thirty cost nothing because Medical Center covers that band. The crossover is provider two. Below it they are cheaper. Plans on pricing.

The heaviest block, and the closest. TheraPlatform takes four rows cleanly: a real template library with Wiley behind it, goal and outcome scoring built for therapy, searchable ICD-10 in the note, and co-sign for anyone supervising a student. What keeps us ahead is depth and AI. Our history form changes by specialty and sits on hospital, operating room and nursing records, memory fields drag the last visit forward, the clinical assistant is free on every plan, and the scribe is $20 with a plan you can point at. Sources: theraplatform.com/pricing for the scheduling and telehealth lists and the $0.02 text price, theraplatform.com/features for the calendar and portal, plus drincloud.com/features, checked November 2, 2026.

Three honest wins for TheraPlatform. Its texts cost 2 cents while ours work out near 12 cents in a $36 pack of 300. Its video is unlimited on every plan including the $39 one, while ours is a $10 add-on until the $107 Solo plan. And it runs group sessions, which matters for language and social skills groups. We pull ahead where the practice has a building: rooms tied to shifts, a waitlist that refills itself, tablet check-in with a visit rating, a call screen. Our video is on telehealth.

Sources: theraplatform.com/pricing for the billing list, AutoPay, invoice batching, payment reminders and superbills, plus drincloud.com/features, checked November 2, 2026. Card rates quoted for DrinCloud are standard Stripe US rates on the client's own account, not a DrinCloud fee.

Read this block as a fit question. TheraPlatform's billing feeds a claim, and the parts it shares with cash-pay work well: AutoPay on a stored card, batched invoices, automatic payment reminders, superbills that generate themselves. Missing is the furniture a self-pay clinic lives on: a rate card by service and provider, a sliding scale on the record, product sales that move stock, a priced estimate they sign. It also publishes no processing rate, while our clients keep their own Stripe and their own rate. More on superbills.

TheraPlatform owns the look of what the patient sees: your logo on the portal, your own notification wording, a custom waiting room, virtual backgrounds, homework the family opens at home. For a pediatric caseload that is real value, and it has years of speech and OT clinicians using it while we have none. Our ground is the bilingual clinic: the software in each user's language, and a language field on the patient that decides what language their reminders, portal and documents arrive in. More for speech and occupational therapy.

Zero point five against four point five, and no copywriting changes it. The interactive apps are the reason TheraPlatform exists and the reason a pediatric speech or OT caseload should buy it: over 30 activities the child plays while the therapist annotates, scores and documents in the same window. We have none of that and it is not on our roadmap. They also file claims, check coverage and post ERAs. We have no e-prescribing either, so CA, FL, NY, MI, MN and DE need a separate e-Rx platform, no ONC certification, which is voluntary and matters only for Medicare and MIPS, and no licensed CPT database. Sources: theraplatform.com/features for the BAA at no additional charge, the AES-256 encryption, the firewall, the monitoring and the auditing, and theraplatform.com/pricing for two-factor authentication and the single sign on and custom domain add-ons, plus drincloud.com/security, checked November 2, 2026.

TheraPlatform publishes more about its own plumbing than we do: AES-256 at the database, a firewall in front, monitoring around the clock, audit logs, two-factor at login, and a BAA it signs for free. Credit where it is due. The gap is the door in and the door out. Our importer is free, takes any Excel or XML file, and you run it yourself. On their side there is no documented import at all, and the only export described is a note as a PDF. If you are weighing a move, start at therapists.

The honest answer

Which one fits you?

TheraPlatform is the better fit if...

  • You treat children over video. Over 30 interactive apps and games, a whiteboard, your own resources shared with annotations, scoring as the child plays. We have none of it and we score 0.5 against their 4.5 there.
  • You bill insurance: claims at $0.25, coverage checks at $0.10, batching, automated submission and ERAs that post themselves, on all three plans.
  • You are one provider and want the cheapest start: $39 against our $49, with a 30-day trial and no credit card. We run no free trial at all.
  • You supervise students or assistants: note co-sign requests and an observer seat inside the live session.
  • You want ready-made therapy documentation on day one: a template library, assessments, outcome measures, goal tracking, and Wiley at $15 a provider.
  • Texts are your main channel, or you want the client's experience branded: 2 cents a message against about 12 cents here, plus your logo on the portal and a custom waiting room. Read it beside what an EHR really costs a small practice.

DrinCloud is the better fit if...

  • Your patients pay you directly and an insurance engine is dead weight you would rather not fund.
  • You are two providers or more: $159 against $168, $179 against $237, $407 against $444. Clinic covers 1 to 3 users for one price instead of $39 a head.
  • You want the AI price written down and low: $20 a provider against their $30, the clinical assistant included, the booking chatbot $20 a practice.
  • You want to know what is in each plan before you pay. Ours state their user band, storage and add-ons; their three cards list the same eleven items and leave AI Notes unmarked.
  • Your clinical record has to go deep: a history form per specialty, memory fields carrying allergies and medication forward, procedures charged during the visit.
  • You run a real clinic and not only a caseload: hospital admissions with separate medical and nursing forms, surgery scheduling, inventory, multi-clinic on one account.
  • Part of your caseload speaks Spanish or Portuguese: the software in each user's language, reminders and portal in each patient's language.
  • You have a physical front desk: tablet check-in with a visit rating, a call screen, a waitlist that refills cancellations, one-click excuse notes.
  • You charge cash-pay the way it works: a deposit at booking, a rate card by service and provider, a sliding scale per patient, and a superbill with NPI, EIN, CPT and ICD-10.
  • You want your own Stripe account holding the money at 2.9% plus $0.30, and the exit open: Excel or XML in, CSV and PDF out. Plans on pricing.
FAQ

Questions about this comparison

What exactly are TheraPlatform's interactive therapy apps, and do you have anything like them?
They are a library of over 30 activities and games built into the video session. The therapist opens one, the child plays it on their own screen, and the therapist annotates, tracks the score and documents in the same window, with a whiteboard and the therapist's own uploaded resources alongside. Its pricing page lists interactive therapy apps on all three plans. We have nothing equivalent: our telehealth is unlimited video with screen sharing and the record open next to it, and that is the whole of it. If interactive activities are how you run a pediatric session, buy TheraPlatform.
Which one is actually cheaper?
It depends on headcount, and the crossover is provider number two. For one provider with no AI they win: $39 on Basic against our $49 Essential. For one provider with AI notes we win, $69 against $99, because Pro at $69 plus $30 is the documented route. From two providers up we win every size: $159 against $168, $179 against $237, $407 against $444. The reason is structural: they charge $39 for every provider you add, we charge by band.
Why do so many TheraPlatform cells say 'Not documented'?
Because its own site does not say. TheraPlatform publishes three plan cards whose feature lists are word for word identical, publishes no annual price anywhere, and leaves the AI Notes and CMS-1500 rows with no plan boxes marked. So we cannot tell you whether the $39 Basic plan runs the $30 AI notes, or which plan files a CMS-1500. Those cells read 'Not documented' rather than 'No' because the feature may well exist. The silence is still worth knowing before you pay.
What does the AI cost on each side?
Ours is $20 a month per provider for the scribe that records the visit and drafts the note, $20 a month per practice for the booking chatbot on your website, and nothing for the clinical assistant that handles differentials, interactions and guidelines, which is on every plan. You switch each one on with a button inside DrinCloud: nothing to configure, no usage bill, and patient data is never used to train the models. Theirs is AI Notes at $30 a month per provider, and which plans carry it is not stated.
Can I migrate from TheraPlatform to DrinCloud?
Yes, and the import is free because you run it yourself. Export your client list, upload the Excel or XML file with the importer built into DrinCloud, and check the result. Notes exported as PDFs attach to each patient's file pool so history stays one click away. If an import did not come out right you delete it whole and upload it again corrected, with no fee and nobody to wait for. Signup is online in about 3 minutes and one month is the smallest commitment we sell.
Where does the final score come from, and is this page impartial?
From the tables on this page and nothing else: every scored row gives each product 1, 0.5 or 0 points, each block becomes a score out of 5, and the final number is the weighted average with the weights in the methodology. DrinCloud comes out at 3.6 and TheraPlatform at 3.1, with their 4.5 for interactive teletherapy and insurance billing inside that average at 10%. Weight interactive teletherapy at 40% and TheraPlatform wins outright. It is published by DrinCloud and we say so, which is why every cell of theirs points to a dated public page, and why this page opens by telling a pediatric teletherapy practice to buy TheraPlatform.
